When film critic Gary Arnold reviewed "Animal House," Belushi's spectacularly successful film debut and now the highest grossing movie comedy in history, he described Belushi's portrayal of Bluto, the unregenerate campus slob, as "an amalgam of unchecked appetites in a vaguely human form." He would twirl himself into fury, his arms would flail in the air, and he'd fall off his chair and disappear behind the desk. On NBC's "Saturday Night Live," where Belushi was a founding member of the original company of comedy players, he tore into roles that often depended on unashamedly brandished physical and emotional extremes: the easily aroused, oddly plump samurai swordsman who might be found behind the desk of a hotel or a deli or doing strenuous flips at a disco, the boisterous proprietor of a greasy Greek diner (where Belushi introduced, among other catch phrases, the cry of "Chee-burger, chee-burger" and the wilting "No Coke, Pepsi"), and the ultimate angry young man delivering commentaries that invariably degenerated into frenzy. He could not be casually encountered he will not be casually forgotten. Those who came in contact with him, through television or in person or both, will never have vague memories.

He was 33 and by all accounts, his appetites were still defiantly enormous. But lives lived to excess, lives virtually devoted to it, sometimes end early. Favorite set pieces include their clothing-store battle with some punk rocker zombies and Mary Woronov as a sexy scientist who gets to indulge in some deadpan flirting with her Eating Raoul co-star Beltran.

Since the heroines of Night of the Comet are two valley girls, their immediate preoccupations are which one of them gets to “make it” with what might be the last surviving male in Los Angeles (hunky Robert Beltran) and, bored out of their minds when they aren’t blowing away creatures with UZI machine guns, flitting around the local shopping mall for new cheerleader outfits. A blazing comet transforms every living human into piles of red dust, leaving behind only a handful of survivors and cities teeming with flesh hungry zombies. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, but its peppy teenage characters and refined tongue-in-cheek sense of humor go a long way. It aims low, giving a retread of clichés from 1950s end-of-the-world drive-in pictures and George A. This endearingly hokey low-budget B movie comes with a high nostalgia factor from the Reagan era: puffy hairstyles and clashing neon/shoulder pads fashion, ultra-lite Hall and Oates style rock ‘n’ roll (with a welcome Cyndi Lauper track tossed into the mix), and cheapo analog special effects.
